What Makes a Good Small Business Website?
- 1
Clear messaging
Within a few seconds, visitors should know what you do, who you serve, and where. Lead with that, not a slogan.
- 2
Mobile usability
Buttons big enough to tap, text readable without zooming, and a phone number that dials when pressed.
- 3
Fast-loading pages
Properly sized images and lean pages help people stay instead of hitting the back button.
- 4
Easy navigation
A short, obvious menu. If a customer has to hunt for your services or contact page, many won't.
- 5
Strong calls to action
Tell visitors the next step — call, book, or request a quote — and repeat it where it makes sense.
- 6
Accessible design
Good color contrast, descriptive image text, and keyboard-friendly menus make your site usable for more people.
- 7
Search-friendly content
Pages that describe your services and location in plain language help search engines connect you with local searches.
- 8
Trust-building elements
Real reviews, real photos, clear pricing or next steps, and up-to-date contact details.
Small Business Website Questions.
How much does a small business website cost in San Diego?
With Project Div, a Starter Website (up to 3 pages) starts at $500 and a Business Website (up to 7 pages) starts at $1,500, as one-time development fees. Custom development is quoted by scope. Hosting, domains, premium licenses, and optional maintenance are separate unless included in your written proposal.
Can I get a professional website for $500?
Yes, within the Starter scope: up to 3 pages on WordPress, a template-based design customized to your existing branding, mobile-responsive layouts, a basic contact form, basic on-page SEO setup, and one round of revisions, using content and images you provide. More pages, copywriting, or advanced features cost extra.
How many pages does my business need?
Many small businesses start with a home page, a services page, and a contact page — which fits the Starter package. If you need separate pages for individual services, an about page, a gallery, or a blog, the Business package covers up to 7 pages.
Do I need WordPress for my website?
Not necessarily, but it's what we build most small-business sites on because you can update content yourself and add features later. If another approach suits your goals better, we'll say so.
Can you redesign my existing website?
Yes. We can refresh an outdated design, reorganize your content, improve the mobile experience, or rebuild the site entirely, depending on what makes sense for your budget.
Will my website appear on Google?
We include basic on-page SEO setup — page titles, descriptions, headings, and a search-friendly structure — so Google can understand your site. No one can guarantee rankings; where you appear depends on competition, your content, reviews, and ongoing effort over time.
Do I need to pay monthly for website maintenance?
No. Maintenance is optional. If you'd like help with updates, backups, and monitoring, care plans start at $75/month. Hosting and domain renewals are separate ongoing costs paid to those providers.
Can I update my website myself?
Yes. WordPress lets you edit text, images, and pages from a dashboard, and we'll show you how after launch.
Do you work with small businesses outside San Diego?
Yes. We're based in San Diego and focus on local businesses, but most of the process happens online, so we can work with businesses elsewhere too.
